Family session at the rolling Loess Hills

There’s a beauty about the Loess Hills that is simply magical. Rolling trails, river views, beautiful tall grass. We are lucky to have them just to the east of Nebraska and they are a perfect spot for family or senior portraits. I had the privilege of reconnecting with a former co-worker of mine to photograph her beautiful family and the Loess Hills were the perfect backdrop.

We walked along one of the ridges at Hitchcock Nature Preserve, taking in the beauty of the valley below us, the river just to our west on a hot summer night. We caught up on family, life, jobs, health, kids activities and stopped in between conversation for portraits - family group hugs, the girls twirling in the flowers, sending her kiddos off for a walk just down the path holding hands. It was easy and laid back. These are the things I love about family portrait sessions. With me, there’s no rushing it. There’s time to explore, chat, get comfortable.

After a bit of this, we headed down one of the hills and I later found from the trail map that it was a fairly difficult, steep hill - oops! Going down was easy. Getting back up was a little more strenuous. But bless Nicole’s heart she made her way back UP the hill all still with a smile on her face. I think by that time, her kiddos were pretty well done, but I keep snapping away on my camera, capturing the range of emotions kids can have within a short hour. All of these moments, the smiles, the sleepiness, and even the pouts are images that will be treasured later remembering this stage of life.

I absolutely adore capturing moments like these for family. The way a son rests his head on his mother’s shoulder, his little hand on daddy’s face - they are priceless moments that I get to freeze with my camera, and in turn, print for my clients to have on the walls of their home for years to enjoy. Take a peak at this video of the different products this family chose:

I love the products that they chose. A set of 12 square standouts along with some mounted prints, and the accompanying social media files to share online. And I love getting hand written notes in the mail that are beautiful reminders of why I love what I do. I save each and every note that I receive because it means that much to me!
