Aerial image featured in Click Community Blog

When I first began my photography journey, Click Community was one of the first communities that I joined. Suffice it to say, the community is a constant resource and place for me to share my art, receive constructive feedback, and grow as an artist and photographer. It also was the starting point of my journey to Click Pro, an international network of amazing photographers aimed at lifting the voice of female photographers! You can read a little more about my journey here.

Every month, the community hosts a forum photo contest with a theme. For March-April, the theme was “Three’s.” It is an honor to have my image chosen for the featured collection, among so many beautiful pictures and talented artists. Can you spot all the “3’s” in this image? Hint: it’s not just the boats! To see the entire collection, visit here.

A favorite vacation spot and a second chance

There’s a fun story behind this featured aerial image. it’s taken in Door County, Wisconsin. Specifically, in Egg Harbor. Last year, our family vacationed to the area in the summer time. We loved it so much, that we decided to come back and visit in the fall! On our first trip, though, I had hauled all of my cameras, lenses, and drone on the trip with me, only to be disappointed that I had barely flown the drone while we were there. I think I got it out maybe two times. So when we went back in the fall, I was determined to fly it more. And fly it more I did!

It all starts with an Epic visit

My husband is in healthcare I.T., and one of the vendors he works with is Epic, located in Verona, Wisconsin. Their campus is unreal and is a tourist destination in its own right. With over 1,000 acres of lands and building themes from Alice and Wonderland to Deep Space, we could have spent multiple days there!

Can you believe this tree house is a meeting space for employees?

Some of our favorite Door County places to visit

If we could buy a vacation home tomorrow, I bet it would be in Door County. It’s within driving distance of Nebraska, and it offers some of the same feel of our midwest roots, while also offering landscapes and stops to see that are unique to the area. Door County is the peninsula of Wisconsin that separates Green Bay from Lake Michigan. We typically stay in Egg Harbor on the Green Bay side. but a day of driving along the shoreline and you can experience tiny little fishing towns up and down the shore line, islands, and the vastness of Lake Michigan. Not to mention, goats on rooftops!

No, you’re not seeing things! That’s a goat on a rooftop of Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant in Sister Bay, WI.

We have found that the east and west side of the peninsula have a very different feel to them. Pictured below are images we took while visiting White Fish Dunes State Park on the east side of the peninsula. Lake Michigan is incredible to view, and while it was a windy, blustery day, we made the most of it!

Canna Island Lighthouse

Another really fun visit was to Canna Island Lighthouse. To get there, you must take a tractor/hayrack ride across the causeway. It’s a surreal feeling bumping along with rocks and water sloshing beneath you! To see a quick video, click here!

Cherry Trees Galore!

One of the things Door County is known for is it’s cherry trees. The climate and land make it the perfect spot to grow cherries. In fact, there are 2,500 acres of cherry orchards in Door County, and typically over 10 million cherries are harvested there each year! We hope to visit some day during the spring season to see all of the trees blooming!
