Gretna Senior Portrait Session and a Dragon Movie

My kids absolutely love How to Train Your Dragon.  In fact, I had two Toothless dragons for Halloween this year.  What does this have to do with a blog highlighting a senior portrait session?  Well, when I was chatting with Alex at his session, I asked about his favorite movie scores. I knew he liked to listen to movie scores because of the pre-session questionnaire he had filled out prior to our time together. He mentioned the music from How to Train Your Dragon and at that point, I knew we were going to get along just fine :-).

We’re all snatching precious moments from the peaceful jaws of time.

In all seriousness, music is a huge part of Alex’s life, and I’m so glad that we were able to have access to the Gretna High School football field for some marching band images.  When he put his uniforms on, his presence was commanding, and I could tell this was a part of who he is. It was amazing to have the field all to ourselves and I loved getting pictures of Alex both on the football field and in the stands.

Prior to heading over to the field, we had spent about half of his session time at a nearby park.  It was just my luck that the park also happened to have a ball field with a small green shed next to it.  It didn’t look like much, but I knew the color would be perfect for Alex!  After some time at the park, we made a quick stop near a line of trees on the way to the field, and then finished our evening as the sun was setting behind the stadium.

Once I give the images an initial, basic edit, I meet with each client to go through their collection of images set to music.  I also bring samples of the different art products available - from wall art to books, albums, story boxes and small framed prints.  We then work together to build a collection that is tailored to every need and budget.  I absolutely love what Alex and his parents chose for his collection: a sleek, 16x20 metal showing the gorgeous vivid colors of the football field and his band uniform, and a book with beautiful matte pages showcasing all of their favorite images from the session. They also chose a few smooth matte fine art desk prints as gifts and some custom graduation announcement cards.
